New Location Open!

The Machias Area Food Pantry, the brainchild of Helen Vose, opened in the vestry of Centre Street Congregational Church in 1986.

Over the years, we have served an ever-growing number of families – some days the vestry was completely packed to the ceiling with boxes of food.

It’s clear that the Machias Area Food Pantry needed its own home to better serve our community.

The church purchased a property on Kennebec Road in Machias. In early 2022 an anonymous donor launched our fundraising efforts with a large gift. That gift, along with several successful grants and generous giving from the community and beyond, made this project become a reality.

An architect donated their services, and a local contractor won the construction bid. We broke ground in fall 2022. The Machias Area Food Pantry moved into its new location in the summer of 2023.
