Machias Area Food Pantry

We are located at 43 Kennebec Road, PO Box 75, Machias, Maine 04654

You will have the option to shop on Mondays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. OR Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please note that you may only visit the pantry 1 time per week. First-time visitors will be asked to complete a brief intake form.  Presently, the pantry offers in house shopping.  Be sure to bring your reusable bags!

We serve the following towns: Bucks Harbor, Cutler, East Machias, Jonesboro, Machias, Machiasport, Marshfield, Northfield, Roque Bluffs, Wesley, and Whitneyville.

Winter Pantry Closing Policy 2026

Please note our new policy for closing the pantry due to inclement weather.

If we need to close due to bad weather on a Monday, our next distribution day will be the following Wednesday only.  On such Wednesdays, we will expand our hours and be open from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

If we need to close on a Wednesday, our next distribution day will be the following Monday with our normal distribution hours from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

If the Machias schools are closed, the pantry is closed.  Closure updates can be found on our website and Facebook page.

Policy Change Notice

Please note that beginning Monday, October 6th 2025, we will be going back to a policy that was previously in place regarding shopping for others. You will no longer be able to go through the line to shop for others. Instead, pre-packed bags will be available for you to take to those unable to shop for themselves.

There has been some confusion about our policy update.

To clarify-

If you are a pantry client and shop for yourself and also pick up for others, you will receive a pre-packaged bag(s) for the others. This will eliminate multiple trips through the line.

For those with dietary restrictions, we would be happy to pack a special bag if you call us ahead of time at 207-259-6044. We will do our best to accomodate you.

If you are a caregiver or proxy not shopping for yourself, you may continue to shop for that person.

Donations

We accept donations on Monday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Wednesday 9:00 am to 1:30 pm. Please do not leave donations outside.

Your donations to the Machias Area Food Pantry (MAFP) helps us to fulfill our mission of feeding those in need.  We appreciate every donation that we receive. Please note that you will receive an end of year acknowledgement of your monetary gift.

A Community United: Our Food Pantry's Wish List

At the Machias Area Food Pantry, we believe no one in our community should go to bed hungry. Every week, we serve between 180-200 families in our 11-town service area, providing nutritious meals and essential staples.

We wish to thank all who donated food and funds.  Your overwhelming generosity and support speak volumes to the strong community caring for those with less.

Monetary donations received by check or through our online giving platform, Give Butter, are always welcome as are donations of food.  If you wish to support us with gifts of food, the following is a list of items that are currently needed:

• Canned protein foods such as Tuna, Chicken, Salmon, and Sardines
• Peanut Butter
• Personal Care items such as singly packed toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, and hand soap.

You can bring your food items to our pantry on: Mondays from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; or Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
